Postcard features a retro-inspired, whimsical design sensibility that draws inspiration from Japanese vintage postcards and artwork of the Taisho era of the 1920s. The intimate space is decadent and vibrant, combining pastel tones, rich patterns and retro forms. A custom, oversized curved glass and mirrored metal display case showcases the colorful pastries and sandos, which sell out daily. Boldly visible from the street, every surface in the arched service area - ceiling, walls, counters, floors - has been bathed in a vivid vermillion red, creating a dynamic contrast to the golden glow of the window seating. The seating area, featuring soft, quilted banquettes, is composed of muted shades of creamy peach and butter yellow. Golden marble floor tiles further emphasize the softness and are playfully reflected in the glossy pastry case. A custom lime green wallcovering was created in collaboration with LMNOP - the agency responsible for Postcard Bakery’s graphic identity. The patterned walls, which are framed in custom oak millwork, evoke the botanical and geometric influences of artist and illustrator Yumeji Takehisa.
